Episode Let Us...
There is a phrase that appears continuously in the scriptures, particularly it seems to be an idea that is important to the writer of the letter to the Hebrews. And what makes this phrase interesting is that some see it as a command. I would suggest, rather, that it is an invitation—an invitation to join with the writer in walking with Jesus. The phrase? “Let us…” He is not telling his readers what they must do, but rather he is inviting them to join with him in pursuing these things together. The phrase “let us” appear thirteen times in Hebrews, and, for this series of conversations, we want to cherry-pick several of those invitations for closer consideration.
Chapter 1
The writer of Hebrews invites his readers to join him in walking with Jesus in a variety of different ways, and he does it through the simple phrase: “let us.” In this chapter, you’ll join the team on a journey to find out where this invitation will lead us.
Chapter 2
When we’re in trouble, we go in search of a sympathetic ear. And gratefully, we have a High Priest who is sympathetic to our human sufferings! He knows everything and He understands exactly how you’re feeling. In this chapter, you’ll find out how the simple invitation “Let us pray” can change your life.
Chapter 3
Some Christians get saved and then get stuck. They don’t seem to mature in their faith. And it’s not a new problem. In this chapter, you’ll consider how we all should respond to the invitation in Hebrews that says: “Let us press on to maturity.”
Chapter 4
Much of Hebrews is devoted to our personal relationship with God. But in the middle of chapter ten, we find advice on how to deal with other believers. In this chapter, you’ll look at the important invitation to “spur one another on to love and good deeds.”
Chapter 5
When you’re running a race, there are times when you need to dig deep in order to keep going. And our faith requires that sometimes, too. In this chapter you’ll discover another invitation in the book of Hebrews, one to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
