Episode Does Sabbath Still Matter?
This week on Discover the Word, the group will consider the idea of Sabbath, and whether it still applies to us New Testament people who are under the New Covenant. We’ll explore the intention and heart behind Sabbath, going all the way back to Creation and the first mention in Genesis chapter 2. We’ll note its inclusion in the giving of the Law. And we’ll notice all the confusion Jesus seemed to create about Sabbath when He was here on Earth. And in the end, we’ll consider whether or not Sabbath still applies to us today. Chapter 1
After God made the universe, earth, plants, animals, and mankind, He rested. Was God exhausted from all His work or was He taking a moment to enjoy His creation? In this chapter, you’ll open the Bible to get a better understanding of this biblical day of rest.
Chapter 2
Do you struggle to unplug from your work and relax at the end of a long week? In today’s fast-paced society, taking a day of rest can feel . . . well, wrong! In this chapter, you’ll learn about the Sabbath and the different ways and different times God affirmed this day of rest.
Chapter 3
The fourth commandment in God’s Top Ten says: Remember the Sabbath. But does that rule still apply to us today? In this chapter, you’ll discover the meaning, significance, and relevance of the Sabbath.
Chapter 4
Rules are a part of life. But, sometimes in our zeal to keep up to the letter of the law, we lose touch with the spirit of God’s “laws.” In this chapter, you’ll talk about the new standard set by Christ and consider whether or not we still need to keep the Old Testament commands, like the Sabbath.
Chapter 5
God knows what’s best for us, and in that spirit, He offers us rest. So why do we resist His generous offer and trudge on? In this chapter, you’ll explore how Jesus challenged and changed the way we see the Sabbath.
